Chapter 1. Introduction

This is the user manual for the Free Software Groupware solution client, that we will refer to as Kolab client in this manual. It will get you started with configuring your Kolab client with the groupware functionalities.

It will also help you to use the new features of KMail and KOrganizer in Kolab mode, describing step by step the procedure to follow.

1.1. What You Should Know

KMail in KDE Kolab mode is a Free Software groupware solution across Free Software platforms and proprietary ones. It aims to provide email, contacts, appointments and tasks lists working in heterogenous environment

The groupware solution is based on a client/server architecture. The server component is called Kolab and is based on Free Software components. The KDE client part is based on enhanced version of KMail, KOrganizer, and other KDE components.

Kolab email functionality is provided: sending email via SMTP over TLS and receiving it via IMAP over TLS (or plain SMTP and IMAP).
