December 9th, 2007 » Kolab Server 2.2 Beta 3 (with Horde web client) released
Source and binary packages for Kolab Server 2.2 Beta 3 are available for download.
Since 2.2 beta 2 the Kolab server provides a web client that supports all the groupware features known from Outlook and Kontact. Thus users are less dependent on their local client and can access their groupware data from anywhere in the world provided they have a standard browser available.

The change of this release is a redesign of the sources for filtering. It is now possible to select the source folders. With this new feature filtering is no longer a problem, especilly a groupware folder is only filtered, if the folder is selected. This release also contains several bugfixes. In an effort to further increase the quality and usefulness of the Kolab Groupware Solution, jointly developed by KDAB with its partners in the Kolab Konsortium, KDAB now contracts Gunnar Wrobel of P@rdus to accelerate development of the Horde web client, the preferred web client for the Kolab solution. Gunnar will also maintain community relations on behalf of KDAB.

This release contains several fixes and a few new features, like:

  • Ability to add ones signature at top of an email reply automatically or manually at the cursor position.
  • An extra button to send an email to results of LDAP queries and the possibility to reach that query dialog directly from the address selection dialog.

This release contains a fix for a bug introduced in 2.1.3. The bug makes kontact much harder to use when accessing the same kolab account from multiple machines.

June 26th, 2006 » New version 2.1.2 of proko2 KDE client is available
One month after the last release we are happy to announce that a new Proko2 KDE client is out. This is mainly a bugfix release.
Take a look at the release notes in the download section for a detailed view of all applied changes.

Here is a short overview of the new features and bugfixes.

  • New: Show quota information in the folder tooltip
  • New: Allow ";" as additional address separator
  • New: Show detailed information about recurrences of events in the invitation mail
  • Fixed: Ressource colors doesn't disappear when deleting an event from the calendar.
  • Fixed: Groupwarefolders are now unsubscribed for online imap after setup with kolabwizard.

This release is a bugfix release decorated with some nice new features which are mainly backports from the KDE 3.5 branch.

April 7th, 2006 » KDE Client 2.1.0 Feature Release.
Six months after the last release we are happy to announce that a new release of the Kolab 2 KDE Client is ready for download. We call it 2.1.0 as it includes some new features and a lot of bug fixes.
Take a look at the release notes in the download section for a detailed view of all applied changes.

Here some of the new features coming with the new release:

  • Support for online and offline mailfolders. Choose which part of your mails escort you to your offline journeys
  • Implemented offline support of your LDAP addressbook
  • Support for displaying Quota information
  • Improved detection and protection against ghost messages in case of a crash
  • Sync with Palm devices in KPilot is significantly improved after resolving many KPilot bugs. One known problem remains. Please look in the release notes.

February 10th, 2006 » Kolab at CeBIT 2006 Fair in Hannover, Germany
Kolab Groupware will be at the world largest computer fair CeBIT (March 9th − 15th, 2006). Visit Kolab in hall 5 (KDE booth somewhere close to F56), hall 5 F58/2 and hall 4, booth F52. On selected days, someone from the Kolab-Konsortium will visit the fair. So if you want to talk to KK: Schedule an appointment in advance.

With the default configuration of the Kolab server, passwords used for authenticated SMTP are written to a logfile in some circumstances. See the Kolab Security Advisory 08 for details. Note that the new stable server release, 2.0.3 already contains the fix for this problem.

November 15th, 2005 » Kolab wins "Best Groupware Server" Award
Kolab has been given the Linux New Media Award 2005 in the category 'Best Groupware Server'. The jury chose Kolab on top of contenders like Openexchange, OpenGroupware, GroupWise, eGroupWare, Scalix and Lotus Notes. This was revealed during a ceremony Tuesday evening at the LinuxWorld Expo 2005 in Frankfurt, Germany.

The latest and probably last release candidate for the Kolab Server 2 comes with two important bugfixes and draws a few security updates from OpenPKG. After a brief testing period it will become the stable release.

The third release candidate of the KDE Kolab2 Client based on KDE 3.3 is public. After a short final testing period it will be declared stable.

With many contributors working on the beef of the Kolab product, we are very glad, that slowly more help with the documentation is coming in. Thanks to Michael Feilner we have the first picture of the KDE Kolab2 clients in our screenshot section. Needless to say: We are looking for more.

Life is getting easier for our German speaking users as Werner Sorgenfrei has translated the KDE Kolab Client setup manual.

June 1st, 2005 » Kolab-Server 2.0-RC2 public, with RC3 around the corner.
The mirrors have the second release candidate of the server for you. Because of a bug found in RC1 and RC2, RC3 is not far away. Check the updated RC2 release-notes for details of the bug and a temporary workaround.

May 11th, 2005 » Kolab-Konsortium: Enterprise Support available
Kolab-Konsortium (German Page), formed by the companies Intevation GmbH and Klarälvdalens Datakonsult AB, started commercial support for Kolab Groupware. The consortium aims to complement the open Kolab Project with a standardised technical support offer in order to ensure a sustainable development. Individual commercial support continues to be available by several companies. (The web-site of Kolab-Konsortium is in German, availability of English version will be announced here.)

May 9th, 2005 » Kolab 2 Server RC 1 published.
The first release candidate for Kolab 2 Server is public. Like the couple of last betas there are only a few minor fixes and improvements in this release.

May 4th, 2005 » Kolab2 Clients out of beta.
The KDE Kolab2 client has been published as "release candidate 1" tarball based on KDE 3.3. A logical consequence of good experiences with this software within the last months. Get it from the download servers along with the release notes. The release comes so late, because: KDE packagers tend to build from stable CVS branches and often do not rely on tarballs anyway.

On a related note: Toltec 2.0 release candidate 2 is also available.

The fith beta of Kolab 2 Server comes with minor fixes and improvements.

April 19th, 2005 » German Install Tutorial contributed
For German readers the new Kolab2 Installationsanleitung describes how to setup the server and clients and has many screenshots. It was contributed by Giovanni Baroni from activmedia.

April 6th, 2005 » Sync Kolab beta 0.4.0 for Thunderbird
Today the 0.4.0 beta version of Sync Kolab for was announced. This Thunderbird plugin is compatible with the old Kolab1 storage format and allows to sync contacts, events and tasks. The author Niko Berger is seeking feedback on the Kolab-users list and currently works on a Kolab2 version of Sync Kolab.

March 26th, 2005 » Kolab 2 Server beta 4 available
The forth beta of the Kolab 2 Server now also offers a German admin interface. The team welcomes additional translations. Some minor improvements were made and, as always: The mirrors are your friends. Thanks to Belnet at this point for providing another mirror for Kolab.

March 10th, 2005 » Kolab 2 Server beta 3 released.
The third beta of the Kolab 2 server implementation is out on the mirrors. It fixes security issues and a few bugs. Details can be found in the release notes.

March 9th, 2005 » Kolab demonstrated at CeBIT 2005
If you happen to attend CeBIT you can peek a look at Kolab 2 in the KDE booth in Hall 6, LinuxPark. CeBIT is the worlds largest trade show and runs from March 10th to 16th 2005 in Hannover, Germany.

February 9th, 2005 » Security Advisory for Kolab Server
A security problem affecting Kolab 1 and 2 servers has been discovered. Installations where the manager password suggested by the boostrap script was accepted unchanged and some development installations are vulnerable. Fixes are available. See the Kolab Security Advisory 01.

February 4th, 2005 » Public betas of Toltec and KDE Kolab2 clients
Today Radley Network Technologies announced a public beta of its Toltec Connector 2.0 product. Toltec 2.0 is a proprietary plug-in which enables Outlook to act as Kolab2 client using the Kolab2 storage format.

The Kolab project has put a public beta1 tarball of its Free Software KDE Kolab2 client on the download mirrors. It is based on the CVS 3.3+proko2 branch which has seen most Kolab quality control and is the recommended version for production systems.

January 15th, 2005 » Second Beta of Kolab2 Server available
Mirrors will soon have caught up with the 2nd beta of Kolab2's server implementation. Many bugs got fixed, check the release notes for details and upgrading hints.

January 6th, 2005 » Aethera 1.2.0 released
A new version of the personal information management application Aethera was released. In version 1.2.0 the Kolab1 client support was improved.

The implementation of Kolab2's server is available as first beta now. Get it from the mirrors and help iron out the last bugs.

December 20th, 2004 » New wiki up; Eforum up again
There is a new experimental wiki especially for Kolab documentation: Reach it via the link in the navigation.

The forums were down for about 3 weeks after they have been broken into. Now they are back up again! Thanks to Olaf Boehm for running this service for the Kolab community.

August 12th, 2004 » New mirrors carry server snapshots.
Two new mirrors of ftp.kolab.org are available. They carry development snaphots of the Kolab2 Server.
August 12th, 2004 » Kolab Storage Format Draft as PDF
The upcoming Kolab2 implementations will use a new format for saving its data on the server. This has been discussed on the format list and specs are in CVS. Now a draft pdf version is available in the documentation section.

Freebusy handling, directory server architecure and lack of legacy support make it slightly different, but Citatel/UX v6.21 was fully tested with KDE Kolab1 Clients.

An issue tracker has been lauched to handle bug and feature request tracking for the Kolab server. Users are encouraged to submit bug reports for any issues they may encounter to the tracker in aid the developers with bug fixing.

A forums for general discussion of the Kolab server has been lauched as an alternative to the mailing lists.
